Information about the year-end
Exemption order
You can submit exemption orders online directly in your personal banking area, under the menu item Service > Exemption order Switching from individual to joint exemption orders, or from joint to individual ones, is only possible using the form provided.
We pay tax on your investment income (e.g. interest) to the tax office automatically. A valid exemption order must be in place in good time. That is the only way a tax deduction can be avoided.
As an individual you can exempt investment income of up to €1,000 per year (the saver's allowance). For married couples or registered partners a joint allowance of up to €2,000 per year applies.
You can spread the saver's allowance across several financial institutions. However, the overall limit of €1,000 or €2,000 must not be exceeded in total.
Please note that we hold accounts as individual accounts as a matter of principle, and that linking them for tax purposes is not possible. An exemption order always applies from the day it is submitted and to all of a customer's accounts held with us.
Using your exemption order when interest is paid during the year
If you have a fixed-term deposit, it may mature during the year. The interest is then credited to your instant access savings account on the maturity date. If you have registered an exemption order, part of it is already used during the year, at the point your fixed-term deposit matures.
You will find the income already exempted for the current calendar year in your banking under Service > Exemption order.
Interest credit
The interest on your instant access savings account is credited once a year. That means: at the end of the calendar year you receive the interest that has accrued on your investment during the year. You will find an overview of your interest income and any tax paid on your account statement.
Fixed-term deposits with a term of up to and including one year benefit from the interest being paid out directly at the end of the term.
Account statement
Since January, the annual account statement for your instant access savings account has been available in your banking. You will find it under the Postbox menu item. Even if you have already closed your instant access savings account, your statement is made available to you online. For technical reasons it may be provided in stages. Please note that the account statement is available by the end of January of the following year at the latest.
Annual tax certificate
We make the annual tax certificate available to our customers as a download in their personal Postbox in the banking, under the Postbox menu item. Even if you have already closed your instant access savings account, your annual tax certificate is made available to you online. It can be viewed online, and also saved to your computer or printed. It is provided during the first quarter of the following year.
Information for those liable to church tax
Has your religious affiliation changed? Then you can instruct us to make an ad-hoc enquiry, so that we can take your current church tax status into account for future interest payments. Otherwise we use the church tax status we received from the Federal Central Tax Office. We received that status as part of the regular enquiry.
Abolition of the solidarity surcharge
The abolition of the solidarity surcharge in 2021 does not apply to investment income. You still have to pay the solidarity surcharge on your investment income if withholding tax is due on your interest income. We continue to pay this to the tax office automatically.
